The non-profit group Heart of West Georgia recently provided a donation to Camp Viola to help purchase a defibrillator for the local summer camp.

The group has made many similar donations to organizations throughout Troup County and the West Georgia area. They have provided funding for countless automated external defibrillator (AED) devices to local groups and law enforcement, including one that famously helped Troup County Sheriff’s Deputies save a man’s life in 2016.

Heart of West Georgia is a 501(c)3 organization which focuses on heart health and fighting heart disease by raising funds for heart education, cardiovascular projects, women’s health, and anti-obesity efforts to support the people of West Georgia.

Despite the pandemic, heart disease and stroke remain the number one killers across the globe. Some forms of cardiovascular disease affects more than one in every three adult Americans and many suffer from disabilities caused by these diseases.

Like the AEDs donated to law enforcement, the Heart of West Georgia donated funds for the defibrillator to Camp Viola to help them prepare for an emergency, but they hope they’ll never need to use it.

Camp Viola is a Christian based non-profit camp that operates multiple youth camps throughout the summer months to give local youth an opportunity to experience various outdoor activities regardless of economic status. Camp Viola recently returned to mostly normal camp operations after taking last summer off due to the pandemic. The overnight camp still offers its traditional activities like swimming, crafts, games, and daily Bible services, but staff are working hard to sanitize more than ever. Camp Viola Board President Bubba Jeter was happy to accept the funds for the defibrillator, which they are currently in the process of purchasing.
