MISSION STATEMENT

Heart of West Georgia is a 501 (C) 3 organization that focuses on raising money for Heart Education, Cardiovascular Projects, Women’s Health and Obesity to support the people of West Georgia. All money raised remain in our community as we work to battle our nations #1 Killer, Heart Disease.

Our Story

Heart of West Georgia, Inc. (HOWG) was formed to raise funds to provide awareness of healthy hearts to Lagrange, GA and the surrounding area. The board raises funds through planned fundraisers one of which is an annual golf tournament in the spring of each year. HOWG’s mission is to provide grants for projects related to education, equipment, and research in the following areas of concern and focus: Cardiovascular Disease, Women’s Health, and Childhood Obesity.

Heart of West Georgia fundraising events are planned and staffed by the board of directors as well as volunteers in the community.  The Board is considered a volunteer “working” board and all members are asked to participate.  The Board is quite diverse with local professionals in medicine, education, and business.  The Board is instrumental in establishing contacts with local organizations that may be in need of financial funding for projects that fit into our mission.

The Board has a past affiliation with the American Heart Association (AHA).  AHA decided to concentrate its efforts on metropolitan areas in 2008 so the local Board decided to form what now is the Heart of West Georgia, Inc. a nonprofit organization. HOWG received it’s nonprofit status in 2010 and has been continually planning fundraising activities to help support and fund research, equipment, and education through grants in West Georgia.
