On August 24, 2022, Hogansville Police Department, Troup County Fire Department, and Troup County EMS responded to a person not breathing call in the City of Hogansville. Officer Guillot arrived on the scene and immediately began assessment and lifesaving intervention. Officer Guillot and Sergeant Freeman began CPR. Sergeant Milliron deployed his defibrillator. The three worked together seamlessly continuing CPR and “shocks” in precession while awaiting the arrival of the ambulance.

The patient began showing some faint signs of life after the third round of shocks was administered along with CPR and airway control with oxygen. The patient regained a faint pulse and was attempting to breathe on his own, although he still needed aid. Once EMS arrived on the scene, all officers assisted them with placing the patient on a stretcher and into the ambulance to be transported to West Georgia Medical Center. Sgt. Freeman assisted Paramedics Amy Sheppard, Kaitlyn Gates, and Hailee Roberts with continued care until the patient was stable enough to be transported to West Georgia Medical Center. The patient was transported to West Georgia Medical Center with a stable pulse and was eventually transferred to the ICU. Because of the efforts and quick response by all of the First Responders who responded to the call, the patient was able to return home approximately a week later.

All First Responders that responded to this call for service were recognized at tonight’s Hogansville City Council meeting and were given a Lifesaver Award from Hogansville Chief of Police Jeff Sheppard.
